Foundation stone laid for new Brose plant in Ostrava, Czech Republic

Kopřivnice/Czech Republic (07.11.2003). The globally active automotive supplier Brose laid the foundation stone for a new plant, which will produce closure systems and seat adjusters, near the Czech town of Ostrava last Friday. Brose is investing approx. 40 million euro in the building, equipment and manufacturing facilities of the new production-site. With more than 500 employees and floor space totaling some 21,000 square meters, an area as big as two and a half soccer pitches, production is scheduled to commence in October next year.

At the beginning of the year, the Czech Brose subsidiary, Brose CZ spol. s.r.o., acquired closure system manufacturing facilities in Roznov. Brose decided to move out of these rented premises and to extend production with currently 400 employees.

In the course of the next eleven months, leading edge pre-production facilities with a press shop and paint shop for surface treatment will be set up on an area of land totaling more than 100,000 square meters. There will also be manufacturing facilities for different closure systems and seat adjusters. In the next three years, this project will create more new jobs in the region.

The products of the Czech plant are also to be exported to countries like Belgium, Sweden, Italy and Germany, supplying the customers DaimlerChrysler, Lear, Johnson Controls, Faurecia and BMW.

“The decision to invest in the Czech Republic is of strategic significance for us, particularly with regard to penetrating the markets of Eastern Europe in the future. The aim behind this expansion is to increase the global manufacturing capacity of our company, “said Jürgen Otto, a board director of the Brose Group.
Petr Hermann, general plant manager of Brose CZ spol. s r.o. explains: “Investing in this industrial region ultimately means buttressing its car-building tradition. Our plant is located in close proximity to the Tatra plant in Kopřivnice.”

Other reasons for Brose’s decision to establish a plant here were the general competitive conditions of this location. The plant, however, will still have to pit its strengths in the future competing internally with other Brose locations in order to retain an advantage when going for contracts. The productivity increase is at the same time accompanied by the constant pricing pressure in this business sector. Brose can only counteract this with a favorable cost structure and continuous improvement in processes.

The focus of the current activities of Brose CZ spol. s r.o. is on the production of closure systems and related components for the automotive industry.
