Brose’s idea management up among top ten in Germany

Coburg (June 16, 2006). The three Brose locations of Meerane, Coburg and Hallstadt are up among the ten companies which implemented the largest number of employee ideas in 2005, ranking third, fourth and ninth respectively. This is the result of a recently published survey carried out by the Deutsche Institut für Betriebswirtschaft (dib). 306 companies from 18 different lines of business, including 41 automotive suppliers, took part. When compared to the supplier companies, the Brose plants finished top of the ranking.

"This positive result testifies to the commitment of the employees to actively participate in the development of our family-owned company," said Reinhold Wirsing, coordinator of the worldwide corporate improvement suggestion scheme at Brose.

Modern idea management can be highly effective. The implementation of employee suggestions can save costs and enhance a company’s competitive edge. There has been a corporate improvement suggestion scheme at Brose since 1969. It has meanwhile developed into a modern idea management system and is currently implemented at 19 locations worldwide.

Approx. 2,750 employees took part in the corporate improvement suggestion scheme last year, submitting about 10,500 suggestions. This resulted in savings of 5 million euros. Bonuses for successfully implemented decisions totaling 265,000 euros were paid out to employees of the Brose Group. The highest level of participation came from the Mexican plant in Puebla (82%), followed by Ghent/Belgium (66%) and Meerane (65%).

The Brose corporate group develops and produces mechatronic components and systems for vehicle doors and seats worldwide at almost 40 locations in 20 countries. Its customers include more than 40 automotive producers and leading seat manufacturers. There are about 9,000 employees working for the family-owned company worldwide. In the 2005 business year, Brose generated a turnover of approx. 2.2 billion euros.
