Brose extends production capacities for door systems

Jörg Graichen übernimmt die Werkleitung der neuen Fertigungsstätte in Gifhorn, in der Türsysteme für Volkswagen produziert werden

Gifhorn (October 19, 2007). In keeping with the expansion of its door system business, the Brose Group is extending its production capacities: at the end of 2007, the international automotive supplier’s production facility in Gifhorn will go operational, supplying door systems to the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg. Some 60 new jobs will be created when production starts at the facility located on the “Am Allerkanal” industrial estate.

Mayor Manfred Birth welcomed the fact that Brose is to establish a plant in the vicinity: “I am very pleased that our efforts to make this possible have been successful, thus strengthening the economic location of Gifhorn even further.”

“Confident in our continued long-standing and successful collaboration with the Volkswagen Group, we are investing in building equipment and services, state-of-the-art production and communications technology as well as logistics facilities,” said plant manager, Jörg Graichen.

Brose design principle is a recognized standard worldwide

The Brose door system divides the vehicle door into a wet and dry area. The “dry” side of the door houses the electric and electronic components while the mechanical components are installed in the “wet” side, thus eliminating the need for all further steps to seal the inner door panel. This design principle developed by Brose is now recognized as a technical standard worldwide.

Intelligent products and processes safeguard jobs

“Our aim is to adapt the production layout exactly to fit the requirements of our customer,” says plant manager, Jörg Graichen. In the production process, the carrier modules - like all the other components – are conveyed via an electronic Kanban circuit to the assembly workstation, where a complete system unit is put together. The interaction of all components and assemblies are tested in each door system.

Quality assurance measures, such as the Poka-Yoke system, in the production process ensure a stable product quality level. The requested variant of each door system, pre-tested and ready for installation, is supplied in line with the automaker’s own vehicle assembly schedule to the Volkwagen plant in Wolfsburg 20 kilometers away.

Currently, Brose produces door systems, window regulators, latches and seat adjusters for the brands of Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen at fourteen plants in Europe and overseas. The Volkswagen Group is one the Brose Group’s longest-standing customers.
