State-of-the-art stamping technology installed in the Brose press shop

Coburg (30. Mai 2007). The Brose Group is extending its pre-production capacities at its company’s base in Coburg: the facilities at the press shop which house seven hydraulic, eccentric and precision blanking press with a closing force of between 400 and 800 tons now also includes a mechanical 630-ton press with a servo drive scheduled to go operational by the end of June.

The large press is equipped with a completely new kind of drive technology. According to Schuler, the press producer from Swabia/South Germany, this is the first time ever worldwide that it will be used in such large machinery: the mechanical components are driven directly by servo motors. Frank Remy, Director Pre-Production in the Brose Group, explains the essential benefits over conventional eccentric presses: ”Instead of a fixed movement, it is possible to program individual movement and force paths, thus providing maximum flexibility. Given the complex stamped parts produced on this machinery means there is in an even better standard of quality and a high number of pieces per minute.”

A total of approx. 2.3 million euros has been invested in purchasing and installing the press. With planned capacities exceeding those for the equipment being replaced, the new press will be working to full capacity as soon as it goes operational; it is able to stamp rails for seat structures as well as guide rails and base plates for window regulators.

Approx. 54,000 tons of strip steel are made into more than 100 million seat and window regulator rails as well as base plates in more than 400 part variants, which are then supplied to Brose plants worldwide. There are currently approx. 210 employees working in the Brose press shop and the adjacent tool shop.
