Michael Stoschek "Family Entrepreneur of the Year"

Michael Stoschek, family entrepreneur of the year: from l. to r.: Dr. Klaus Schweinsberg (impulse), prize winner Michael Stoschek, President and CEO of the Brose corporate group. Prof. Dr. Peter May (INTES) and Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler (INA), previous year's winner.

Coburg (9. November 2005). The academy for family-owned businesses Intes and the economic journal Impulse presented Michael Stoschek, President and CEO of the Brose Group with the prize "Family Entrepreneur of the Year" at Castle Bensberg on 8 November 2005.

The Intes-Impuls-Prize is awarded every year to an entrepreneur heading a family-owned company who has secured a leading market position by acting strategically, focusing on profitable growth.

The evaluation criteria include excellent achievements in corporate and family strategy.

During the ceremony Prof. Dr. Peter May, who set up Intes, praised Michael Stoschek:"He is an entrepreneur in the truest sense of the word. Not always easy, not somebody who is out to please everyone all the time; on the contrary, he is candid and outspoken, constantly on the lookout for something new and better. Michael Stoschek spurs those around him to excel – precisely what he expects of himself.“

At the age of 23, Stoschek took over management of the family business Metallwerk Max Brose GmbH & Co. which produced vehicle parts for German automakers. The company at that time had a headcount of 1,000.

Right from the very beginning, Stoschek successfully used the responsibility transferred to him to systematically and consistently grow the company. During his first few years as CEO, he implemented long-term strategic measures like having a corporate statute designed to separate capital and management, placing company interests before those of the owners, setting up long-term corporate planning and a modern organizational structure as well as recruiting highly qualified managerial staff.

Besides attaining a technical leading edge with the company's products and introducing state-of-the-art production methods, Stoschek pushed ahead with the internationalization of the family-owned company in Europe during the eighties and subsequently worldwide. Today, almost 9,000 Brose employees work in production, development, sales and administration at 37 locations in 19 countries, generating a business volume which is almost 100 times greater than when he assumed responsibility.

The introduction of the "New Brose Organizational Model", the campaign "Wanted - Older persons" or the development of a standard Brose appearance worldwide are ideas which originate from Michael Stoschek himself and have received acclaim both nationally and internationally similar to the success of the products which has made Brose the world market leader.

The selection of the best entrepreneur in Germany is carried out by a jury made up of eight experts chaired by Intes founder Prof. Dr. Peter May. Currently members of the jury include: Dr. Dirk Drechsler (partner in Hauck & Aufhäuser Privatbankiers), Angelika Frölich (partner at Ernst & Young), Lutz Göbel (Vice-President of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Selbständiger Unternehmer), Albrecht Hertz-Eichenrode (Chairman of the Hannover Finanz Gruppe), Steffen Klusmann (Chief Editor of theder Financial Times Deutschland), Dr. Andreas Muth (Managing Director at JPMorgan Private Bank), Carsten Prudent (Director Management section of the economic journal impulse) as well as Prof. Dr. Peter Witt (Chair Economics, Entrepreneurship and Founding Businesses at the Wissenschaftliche Hochschule für Unternehmensführung/Otto-Beisheim-Hochschule).

The prize "Family Entrepreneur of the Year" was first awarded in 2004 by Intes, the academy for family-owned businesses, and the journal Impulse. Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, owner of the INA-Schaeffler Group, was the first person to win the prize.
