Brose Schließsysteme named Company of the Year

Wuppertal (16.06.2004). On 16 June, the city marketing association Wuppertal awarded Brose Schließsysteme GmbH its “Company of the Year” prize for entrepreneurial and municipal commitment. This prize also underscores the opportunities and potential to be found in Wuppertal.

This year was the first time that Brose Schließsysteme, the closure system business division of the Brose Group, had participated in the competition, finishing first out of more than 70 contestants in the category “Company of the Year.”

“We see the prize as recognition of the efforts we have undertaken to make our company even more competitive internationally,” said Martina Merz, executive vice-president of Brose Schließsysteme. In previous months, there has been some fundamental reengineering going on at the company’s location in Wuppertal. “These restructuring activities have now begun to yield initial positive results. The prize will make us even more determined to continue on this path to success,” she added.

Brose, an automotive supplier operating internationally, extended its system expertise when it acquired the closure system segment from Robert Bosch GmbH at the end of 2002. Today, it is the second-largest supplier of door latches in Germany. The aim is to expand and push ahead with the business in side doors and tailgates as well as incorporating the products into door systems.

Brose’s mid-term objective is to achieve a similar leading position in the market as it has in window regulators, door systems and seat adjusters. This explains the restructuring currently in progress at Wuppertal and the intention to develop the location into a competence center for closure systems by 2006. To make this possible, the family-run company is investing more than 30 million euro in research, development, manufacturing facilities, buildings and equipment.
