Brose Closure Systems present symmetrical door latch at the Frankfurt Motor Show
Wuppertal/Frankfurt/Main (17.09.2003). At the International Motor Show in Frankfurt/Main the automotive supplier Brose, for the first time,
presented a completely symmetrical electro-mechanical side door latch. This latch can be assembled in the right or the left-hand car door. Instead of two variants, only one is necessary which can be used flexibly. This means a reduction in development, production and logistical effort and expenditure.
Additional convenience for the car user is made possible by extending the Brose system latch with a soft close automatic feature. The final stage of the door closure process is actuated by the mechanism causing hardly any noise and, above all, requiring little effort from the user. The actuator developed by Brose for pulling the door shut can be integrated into different latch concepts, reducing development effort, particularly if an automotive manufacturer would like to offer this convenience feature in different classes of car.
Brose holds a leading position in Europe with tailgate latches. At the International Motor Show, the automotive suppliers closure system business division, which is based in Wuppertal, presented a new standard for tailgate latches. The standardization of the latch and its compact design facilitate cost-effective use in a variety of car models without necessitating any great changes in the surrounding design. Brose is therefore able to reduce development effort and can offer customers optimal solutions in a very short time.
By 2005, the Brose Group will have expanded its plant in Wuppertal into a competence center for closure systems. This will involve the globally active automotive supplier investing more than 30 million euro in the building, equipment, research, development and production.
The business with closure systems encompasses the development and the production of latches as well as complete latch modules for automobiles including electronics. Major customers in the market segment include BMW, DaimlerChrysler, GM, Ford and VW.
Brose is a partner of the international automotive industry, supplying more than 30 automotive manufacturers and leading seat producers. There are currently some 7,000 people at 26 locations worldwide engaged in the development and production of intelligent components and systems for vehicle doors and seats. In the past business year, the Brose Group achieved a turnover of almost 1.8 billion euro.
