New course of study “AIMS”: The first graduates receive their diplomas

The “AIMS” graduates received their diplomas in the presence of representatives from Coburg University of Applied Sciences, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) and the Brose Group: Professor Dr. Michael Pötzl, President of Coburg University of Applied Sciences (left), Yan Shuang, Chancellor of the USST (2nd from the left), Thomas Spangler, Brose Executive Vice-President (3rd from the left), Yang Yongcai, Dean of the USST (right), and Professor Gerhard Lindner, Head of the AIMS course (2nd from the right).
Back in 2008, Coburg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology introduced “AIMS” (Analytical Instruments, Measurement and Sensor Technology) as a joint course of further education. The first students to graduate were awarded their diplomas at Brose in Coburg on January 29, 2010. As part of the two-year master’s course, students spend one semester in Coburg and one in Shanghai, as well as one semester of practical work at a company in Germany or China.
The two universities cooperate closely with company groups that have branches in Germany and China. Brose also supports the course of studies “AIMS”. The objective is for students to acquire not only technical qualifications, but also intercultural experience. They likewise write their master’s dissertation in cooperation with a company.
Brose Executive Vice-President Thomas Spangler congratulated the masters of engineering at their graduation ceremony and expressed his thanks for the successful collaboration with the two universities. “I hope that the first-ever AIMS graduation ceremony gives all of us a strong boost in helping us to maintain our approach of fostering international cooperation between industry and higher education and to open up exciting, yet demanding vocational prospects for our junior staff.”
Three of the students have already applied for posts at one of our Chinese locations.
